Serie A Round 12

INTER 1 (Eto'o 48)
ROMA 1 (Vucinic 13)
Marco Motta launched a longball into the Inter box and Vucinic got above Lucio to head over a poorly positioned Julio Cesar. Roma's young defenders, Andreolli and Marco Motta, blew chances to clear a Maicon cross, Thiago Motta rolled the ball through Faty's legs to Eto'o who turned and fired an instant shot past Julio Sergio. Inter failed to build and the match petered out into a boring draw after a promising first half.
Muntari and Vieira should have been sent off, Muntari three times. He stamped on Faty, tripped Menez and when he was booked for a foul on Marco Motta he grabbed hold of the ref's hand as he reached into his pocket. He should be hit with a three match ban. Vieira elbowed Menez.

BOLOGNA 3 (Zalayeta 42, Zalayeta 50, Di Vaio 93)
PALERMO 1 (Kjaer 45)
Zalayeta capitalised on a Kjaer slip to give Bologna the lead from a corner. The great Dane made amends by tapping in the equaliser from Miccoli's free kick but his centre back partner, Migliaccio, failed to get tight on Zalayeta, allowing him to turn and shoot past Sirigu. Di Vaio finished off a disappointing Palermo on the break, Kjaer got back to clear off the line but gave the ball straight back to veteran striker and this time he blasted it low into the left corner.

CAGLIARI 2 (Conti 85, Matri 89)
SAMPDORIA 0
Cagliari were the better side even before Stankevicius was shown a red card for bringing down Jeda. The overworked Castelazzi was finally beaten on 85 minutes. Agostini hammered a volley into the ground and Conti threw himself at the ball to head into the corner. Four minutes later Conti flicked on a corner and Matri flicked a header past Castelazzi.
Sampdoria's slide down the table continued as they suffered a second defeat in three games. They've only one won of their last six games and slipped from first to fifth. The wheels have come off in spectacular fashion.
Attendance : 12,000
Red Card : Stankevicius 42 (Sampdoria)

GENOA 4 (Crespo 2, Crespo 18, Palladino 35, Floccari 90)
SIENA 2 (Paolucci 80, Maccarone 82)
Palacio headed a cross against a post and Crespo smacked in the rebound. The duo repeated the trick 16 minutes later, Curci spilled a Palacio effort and Crespo tapped in his third goal of the season. With all eyes on Crespo, Palladino took advantage to tap in Palacio's deflected centre. When Scarpi fumbled from Paolucci it appeared to be nothing but a consolation goal but two minutes later Genoa failed to clear their lines from a corner and Maccarone thundered a left foot volley inside the left post, 2-3. Floccari ended Siena's comeback hopes from the edge of the box as Siena appealed for offside.

LAZIO 1 (Thiago Silva 64 og)
MILAN 2 (Thiago Silva 21, Pato 35)
Thiago Silva finally scored his first Milan goal, heading in a poorly defended Pirlo free kick. Nesta was lucky not to see red for hacking down Zarate. Pato made poor contact with a brilliant Ronaldinho cross but the bounce took the ball past Muslera. Zarate attempted a shot 25 yards from goal, the ball struck Oddo and Thiago Silva inadvertently turned it into his own net. Muslera made brilliant saves from Flamini and Pato as Milan saw out the match in the teaming rain more comfortably than the scoreline suggests.
The glorious football of the Ancelotti era is gone. Leonardo's Milan play the percentages and are more reliant on set pieces and crosses. Milan have been buying up talented youngsters almost unnoticed, how long it will be before we see Berretta, Zigoni, Adiyiah and Albertazzi in the senior squad, IF we see them in the senior squad, is anyone's guess.

PARMA 2 (Zaccardo 41, Lanzafame 72)
CHIEVO 0
Lucarelli's speculative shot took a deflection off a Chievo player, falling kindly for Wolfsburg flop Zaccardo who took one touch before side footing into the bottom left corner. Elvis Abbruscato headed a corner against the crossbar, Dzemaili nutmegged a defender on the edge of the box as he gathered the rebound, ran 50 yards, played a ball out wide to substitute Lanzafame who was left with a gaping net after Sorrentino made an unnecessary rush off his line. Great counter attacking goal.

JUVENTUS 5 (Camoranesi 36, Camoranesi 37, Felipe Melo 55, Diego 85, Trezeguet 88)
Camoranesi headed Juve into the lead against the run of play and less than a minute later curled in a second after Atalanta failed to clear Grosso's centre. Guarante split the Juve defence with a fantastic pass, Valdes held off Caceres and shot through Buffon's legs, 1-2. Melo intercepted a poor headed clearance on the edge of the box and rifled a shot past Consigli. Ceravolo checked inside Grosso and curled a shot beyond Buffon but two quick goals ended Atalanta's hopes of a comeback. Diego poked in a deflected centre and Trezeguet smashed in a historic fifth, his 167th goal in a Juve shirt which takes him level with the great Omar Sivori on Juve's all time leading goalscorers list and 21 behind the leader Del Piero.

FIORENTINA 5 (Mutu 14, Dainelli 52, Montolivo 59, Marchionni 61, Gilardino 74)
DEBRECEN 2 (Rudolf 38, Coulibaly 70)
Mutu head in a Marchionni cross but Rudolf levelled when Kroldrup went to sleep on a cross. A second half flurry buried the Hungarians. Dainelli headed the home side back in front after Debrecen goalkeeper Pantic made a feeble jump for a cross. Montolivo arrived unmarked at the back post to volley in a cross intended for Mutu and Marchionni finished off a superb one touch passing move. Fiorentina were again punished for taking their eye off the ball but Gilardino ensured there would be no repeat of the first leg insanity when he headed in a Vargas free kick.
A win for Fiorentina at home to Lyon takes them into the last 16. A draw is enough if Liverpool fail to beat Debrecen.

In the last minute of normal time Liverpool failed to deal with a bouncing ball and Lisandro pushed away Cris to equalise.

Shevchenko rolled back the years to score his 15th career goal against Inter. He controlled a ball on his chest before sending a dipping left foot half volley over Julio Cesar. Dynamo failed to get tight on Milito and he punished them with a precise low drive which wrong footed Bogush. Bogush spilled from Muntari, saved from Milito on the follow-up but was finally beaten by Sneijder whose goal sends Inter top of a very tight group.

ARSENAL 4 (Fabregas 26, Nasri 43, Fabregas 52, Diaby 72)
AZ ALKMAAR 1 (Lens 82)
Romero was beaten at his near post by a tame Fabregas effort. Arshavin played in the injury prone Nasri for the second, an excellent dummy took out his marker leaving him to pick his spot. Arsenal countered after the Dutch Champions lost possession from a throw-in, Fabregas finished Arshavin's pass emphatically. Diaby completed the rout for the flat track bullies following another counter attack. Lens beat a poorly positioned Almunia to score a consolation goal.
Arsenal are through (more or less) to the last 16 where they will finally face some decent opposition because they can't draw whichever Mickey Mouse team finishes behind them in second place. This group has been an absolute f*cking joke.

Owen turned onto a deflected pass to equalise. Krasic capitalised on a poorly played offside trap to restore CSKA's lead. United's defensive deficiencies were once against exposed when Berezutski headed in a free kick at the back post. Scholes headed in a Neville free kick and a late own goal denied Europe the pleasure of a Manchester United loss.

For the second successive game Milan had a goal disallowed for nothing. At one stage in a disappointing second half three players who have scored 150 Champions League goals between them - Inzaghi, Raul and RVN were on the pitch. Inzaghi shanked a Pato centre yards from goal while Raul drew a great save from Dida.

Alphonse finished off a great passing move with a brilliant shot on the turn. Niang played a one-two with Kone on the edge of the box, held off a defender and lobbed over Leoni. A flurry of late goals turned this into a rout. Hilton banged in #4 after Zurich once again failed to defend a free kick. The first a header from a Malouda cross. Ashley Cole released Drogba on the counter and he powered through to score at the second attempt after Asenjo saved his initial effort. BIRMINGHAM 0
MANCHESTER CITY 0
Man City drew their fourth league game in a row but go into the top four after a goalless draw at Birmingham. The hosts began very well with Christian Benitez twice denied by keeper Shay Given, the first of which was a brilliant fingertip save from a deflected shot which thudded against the post. The visitors saw plenty of the ball but Birmingham defending well and didn't allow City and clear cut chances. After the break, Birmingham missed a golden chance to take the lead when Nigel de Jong jumped for a header but handled the ball but James McFadden's spot kick was well saved by Given, despite team mate Carlos Tevez pointing to the keeper to dive the other way! Deep into stoppage time, Barry Ferguson was shown a second yellow card as he stopped a throw in being taken with his arm. Dopey red card. This was only the fourth 0-0 draw in the Premier League this season.

ARSENAL 3 (Van Persie 42, Fabregas 43, Van Persie 60)
TOTTENHAM 0
Arsenal move three points above Spurs in the table with a comfortable win in the North London derby. Arsenal went ahead with two goals in the space of a minute at the end of the first half as firstly Bacary Sagna crossed for Robin Van Persie to prod the ball inside the near post and with Spurs still shell shocked, Wilson Palacios lost the ball in midfield and Cesc Fabregas broke clear, beat two men and fired in from the edge of the area, all inside just 11 seconds of the restart! The Halloween horror continued for the visitors after the break as Beniot Assou-Ekotto clattered into Eduardo on the right flank and although the linesman flagged for a foul, the ref played the advantage as Sagna crossed for Van Persie to bundle the ball in after both Ledley King and keeper Heurelho Gomes both missed the cross. Eduardo should have added a fourth but pulled his effort wide whilst clear through.

CHELSEA 4 (Lampard 47 Pen, Deco 61, Knight 82 og, Drogba 91)
Chelsea remain top with their second 4-0 win over Bolton in four days after knocking them out of the Carling Cup in midweek. It was goalless until late in the first half when Jlloyd Samuel brought down Didier Drogba as he burst through on goal and was sent off. Frank Lampard converted the penalty and Chelsea never looked back. On the hour, Nik Anelka found Deco who made space before curling in the second and then Ricardo Carvalho crossed for Zat Knight to bundle into his own net under pressure from Branislav Ivanovic. Late on, Drogba added a fourth with a drilled effort from Lampard's back heel.

BURNLEY 2 (Alexander 20 Pen, Alexander 77)
HULL 0
Burnley saw off struggling Hull in a game which saw little go right for the visitors. A disputed penalty put the home side ahead as the ref ruled that Stephen Hunt had fouled Tyrone Mears when it looked like he'd lost his balance after miss kicking. Graham Alexander made no mistake from the spot although it got worse for Hull after the break. Geovanni's superb free kick found the top corner via the hands of the keeper only for the ref to rule it out for the sort of pushing and shoving which always occurs in the wall at a free kick on the edge of the area. Geovanni was booked for his protests and his frustrations got the better of him when he was shown a second yellow for an angry lunge on Stephen Fletcher. Burnley wrapped it up when Kevin McDonald found Alexander who shot inside the near post from 20 yards.
Attendance : 20,219

Honours even at Goodison as Everton and Aston Villa shared the goals and the red cards. The home side led at half time when Yakubu crossed for Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to slot in. Just after the break, a lovely passing movement from Villa ended with Gabriel Agbonlahor's shot being saved and John Carew netted the rebound. Late on, both clubs had players sent off as Bilyaletdinov went for a two footed lunge on Stilian Petrov and Carlos Cuellar saw a second yellow for a late tackle on Yakubu.

LIVERPOOL 1 (Torres 42)
Liverpool's season is in freefall after losing at Fulham and having two players sent off. Liverpool had the better of the first half but went behind when their defence stayed static as Damien Duff crossed for Bobby Zamora to tap in however before the break, Fernando Torres volleyed in a superb equaliser after Andriy Voronin's header wasn't cleared on the edge of the area. Torres was subbed after the hour mark amid much anger from Liverpool fans and it increased when Fulham went ahead as Paul Konchesky's cross was nodded back by Zoltan Gera and put into the net from close range by Erik Nevland. Liverpool then capitulated as firstly Phillip Degen was shown a straight red for a late tackle on Clint Dempsey and then Jamie Carragher went the same way as he brought down Zamora as he went through on goal, although he claimed that he won the ball. Fulham wrapped it up late on when Nevland set up Dempsey to score the third.

MANCHESTER UNITED 2 (Berbatov 55, Rooney 87)
BLACKBURN 0
Man United return to within two points of Chelsea with a deserved, if unimpressive win against Blackburn. United had the better of the first half but took until ten minutes into the second to finally break through as Dimitar Berbatov, twice denied by keeper Paul Robinson before the interval, intercepted an off target effort at goal from Patrice Evra to turn and volley a fine shot into the corner. Sub Gabriel Obertan missed a sitter late on when he should have doubled the lead for the home side but it barely matter as minutes later, Anderson crossed for Wayne Rooney to fire first time inside the far post. Nikola Kalinic had a late goal incorrectly ruled out for Rovers after Benni McCarthy's shot was saved but whether it would have made any difference, we'll never know.

Bottom club Portsmouth finally won at home as a hat trick from Aruna Dindane helped crush Wigan. Dindane, who couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo until now, grabbed his first when Michael Brown sent him clear and his clipped finish over the keeper was excellently done. On half time the lead was doubled with an emphatic finish by Frederic Piquionne after Dindane had put him through on goal. Dindane's second came after good work from Jamie O'Hara and Kanu, leaving him with a close range finish and late on he completed a hat trick from the penalty spot after Emerson Boyce had fouled Kanu.

Stoke began well and were two up at half time as James Beattie pressured George Elokobi into putting Matty Etherington's cross into his own net and then Wolves failed to clear a long throw from Rory Delap and Etherington took a touch before volleying in from the edge of the area. The visitors battled back and Craddock pulled a goal back after turning in a free kick from Nenad Milijas and then doubled his tally with an excellent glancing near post header from a corner from Milijas.

SUNDERLAND 2 (Reid 39 fk, Richardson 76)
WEST HAM 2 (Franco 30, Cole 36)
Cracking game at Sunderland as they and West Ham shared four goals and two red cards. The Hammers burst into a two goal lead as Jack Collison broke the offside trap to set up Guillermo Franco who netted easily and Collison then found Carlton Cole to net the second. Andy Reid's excellent top corner free kick pulled one back before Sunderland were reduced to ten men when Kenwyne Jones was sent off for pushing Herita Ilunga although his cause wasn't helped by the West Ham man going down like he'd been pole axed. Sunderland grabbed a deserved point when Darren Bent's crossed was deflected over the keeper and bundled in at the far post by Kieran Richardson and then late on, the numbers were evened up when Robert Kovac's late tackle on Bent earned him his second yellow.
